Secret Diary…

Posted by Diva on February 1st, 2010 | No Comments »

Just a quick bit of advice to girls who are considering becoming escorts; watching ‘Secret Diary of a Call Girl’ isn’t necessarily a true representation of the sex industry. Some if it is very accurate; if you are a high class escort living in London, you may well experience situations similar to this. However, if you join a budget agency it will be a very different picture. Half of your night may be spent in a run down waiting room, and not all of the clients are as polite and gentlemanly as Belle’s clients.

I’m a big fan of the ITV series, but I just don’t want girls to be mislead and think that they can easily achieve this lifestyle just by being pretty. It takes a lot of  hard work and determination, and you have to know exactly what you want!

Belle de Jour all over the shop!

Posted by Diva on November 19th, 2009 | No Comments »

My goodness, hasn’t Belle de Jour stirred things up this week! I’ve already been contacted by two journalists from National Papers trying to get my take on escorting. Suddenly the whole country is interested in the industry – the pros and cons, the glamour and the horror.

It was much to the UK’s surprise that Belle turned out to be a doctor who escorted for 2 years whilst studying for her PhD. Dr Brooke Magnanti was well raised, is well spoken and seems well rounded. She may not be typical of all London escorts, but she is a shining example to all the sceptics and haters. Level headed women are perfectly capable of choosing this lifestyle for themselves, and friends and family are capable of accepting it.

Belle revealing her true identity didn’t seem to be out of choice; she knew that people would judge her for it and that it could affect personal and professional relationships. It would seem that hungry vulture journalists had tracked her down and were just about to blow her secret anyway, so she was forced to do it on her own terms. Poor lass, it must’ve been quite traumatic. I’m glad her co-workers have stood behind her and accepted that this news didn’t have anything to do with her current job. She works in a scientific research unit in Bristol, looking for cures for sick children. Not exactly the epitome of evil, like some would like to believe.

I completely accept that there are horrible things that go on in the world; girls forced into prostitution, children trafficked, women beaten and abused. It is truly heart breaking. But there are also strong women who choose this life style for themselves and feel empowered by it; I applaud Dr Brooke Magnanti for highlighting that fact.
